Moving your accounts doesn't have to be stressful. We'll walk you through every step — and most people are fully switched in about two weeks.
Switching banks is one of those things people put off because it feels complicated. It isn't — if you do it in the right order. Here's exactly how we recommend you move your accounts to Alpine Bank, without missing a direct deposit or a single automatic payment.
Start by opening the checking and savings accounts you want at Alpine Bank. You'll need a government-issued ID, your Social Security number, and a small opening deposit. Most people finish this in about 10 minutes online.
Tell your employer (or update your payroll portal) that your direct deposit should go to your new Alpine Bank account. It usually takes one to two pay cycles to switch over, so keep the old account open until the first deposit lands at Alpine.
Go through every recurring charge — utilities, subscriptions, insurance, loan payments — and update the payment method to your new account. The old ones you forgot about are the ones that cause trouble.
Once your direct deposit is landing at Alpine and your automatic payments have cleared the old account, move whatever's left over with a wire, an ACH transfer, or a paper check — whichever your old bank supports.
After 30 days with no activity, call or visit your old bank and close the account in writing. Keep the closing confirmation somewhere safe — you may need it later for tax or records purposes.
If any step feels unclear, a banker can sit down with you and walk through it in person. It's free, there's no appointment pressure, and you'll walk out with a clear plan for finishing the switch.
Open an account online in about 10 minutes — or schedule a call and we'll help you through it.
